In Kenya’s Angama Amboseli camp, opened in November 2023, the once-dying roar of lions is now a thrilling presence. Historically, the region saw significant lion killings, especially between 2001 and 2006, due to human-wildlife conflict. With a population of around 20,000 people in the greater Kimana area, lions were often viewed as threats to livestock. Thanks to conservation efforts led by Big Life, the lion population is slowly recovering. The camp’s opening signals a positive shift, where eco-conscious safaris are helping protect wildlife while promoting coexistence between local communities and animals.
