A report by The Star Kenya shows that Kenya and China just signed a memorandum of understanding, to bolster Kenya’s film industry.
This is following Kenya’s push last year to bring in Hollywood Invention Studios from the famed entertainment city, of Los Angeles, California. Also, the president of the country, William Ruto, had earlier this year visited Tyler Perry Studios in the United States.
This new deal would allow Kenya to be a prime location for movie sets, basically, a place where culture can be shared through the shooting of movies and the promotion of Chinese films in one of East Africa’s fastest-growing economies.
The Star’s report further elaborates that the ceremony, titled “Kenya, China TV Theatre,” included a range of Chinese TV programs, emphasizing the significant cultural interchange between the two countries.
The CEO of StarTimes Media Kenya, Jimmy Carter Luo, admitted his delight regarding the recently established partnership and its prospective impact on film and cultural interaction between the two nations.
The CEO underlined that professional interactions, content sharing, and collaborative projects between Chinese and Kenyan media organizations will be facilitated by the Kenya, China TV Theatre.
“This collaboration is essential for the advancement of our creative industries. It offers a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, technological innovation, and cultural enrichment,” said Carter.
The prominent delegates from both countries were Timothy Owase, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, and Dong Xin, Deputy Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration of China.
Dong Xin expressed hope for future film and audiovisual collaboration between China and Kenya, stating; “This event marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations, particularly in the realm of media and entertainment. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Kenya to foster cultural exchange and mutual development.”
