Kenya Lionesses And Shujaa Set For HSBC SVNS 2 Rounds

Kenya’s Lionesses and Shujaa are preparing for the next rounds of the HSBC SVNS 2 series. Both teams are chasing promotion to HSBC SVNS 1 next season.

The upcoming tournaments will take place in Montevideo on March 21–22 and São Paulo on March 28–29. These matches are crucial for improving their standings.

The Lionesses have named a 13-player squad. Sheila Chajira will captain the team. Faith Livoi and Christabel Lindo return after missing the Nairobi leg. Other players include Naomi Amuguni, Charity Nillah, and Janet Okello.

Chajira thanked fans for their support in Nairobi. She said the team now focuses on winning matches in Uruguay and Brazil. She also appreciated M-PESA’s support.

Shujaa has named a 14-man squad. Key players include George Ooro, Samuel Asati, and Vincent Onyala. Brian Tanga returns from injury. Meanwhile, Gabriel Ayimba earns his first national call-up.

The opening leg at Nyayo National Stadium saw Shujaa finish third. The Lionesses placed fifth.

Strong Support As Teams Chase Promotion

Peter Ndegwa praised both teams for their discipline and fighting spirit. He said the partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union allows players to focus on performance.

Through M-PESA, players receive monthly allowances and medical cover. They also benefit from airtime and financial literacy programmes. As a result, they can fully concentrate on the game.

The HSBC SVNS 2 series remains highly competitive. It offers teams a clear pathway to the top tier. Therefore, strong performances in these rounds will be key for Kenya’s promotion hopes.
