Kenya Leads Cybersecurity Collaboration at Cyber Week Africa 2025
Cyber Week Africa 2025 opened in Nairobi today, marking the start of a high-level dialogue on digital security. The conference runs under the theme “Compliance by Design: Securing Africa’s Digital Future.”
The event brings together government, academia, and private sector leaders to boost Africa’s digital resilience.
It is hosted by the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MOICDE), the National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee (NC4), CyberPro Global, and Huawei.
Strengthening Cybersecurity Through Collaboration
Speaking at the opening ceremony, ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau stressed that cybersecurity is key to Kenya’s economic and national agenda.
“The theme ‘Compliance by Design’ shows our new direction. It means building security, privacy, and accountability into every digital system from the start. Cybersecurity is not just technical; it supports national sovereignty and drives growth,” said Kabogo.
From the private sector, Huawei Kenya Enterprise Business Managing Director Samuel Cheng reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to secure networks and local capacity building.
“As an industry, we must make sure our systems are strong and reliable. Huawei is committed to creating secure solutions and developing local cybersecurity talent,” said Cheng.
Additionally, Huawei and the Ministry of ICT celebrated 40 government officers who graduated from an advanced network security training program. The course equips public servants with practical skills to defend systems and promote a culture of security in public institutions.
Prof. Nura Mohamed, Director General of KSG, said the school aims to lead digital transformation through skills development and research.
“We are uniting all stakeholders to drive the cybersecurity and artificial intelligence agenda, especially within the public sector. That is why we established the Regional Center of Competence for Digital Skilling and Artificial Intelligence, a first of its kind,” he said.

Global Cooperation to Secure Africa’s Digital Future
Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Gideon Behar praised Kenya’s leadership in digital security and shared lessons from Israel’s success.
“If a country lacks cybersecurity, it cannot advance because everything today runs on digital systems. Israel stands ready to support Kenya’s ambition of becoming a regional hub for digital innovation and cybersecurity,” said Behar.
He noted that Israel’s achievements come from strong leadership, close academic partnerships, and a vibrant tech ecosystem. These, he said, are principles Kenya can adopt as it continues to grow its digital economy.
Huawei remains a major partner in Kenya’s digital journey. The company employs more than 4,000 cybersecurity experts worldwide and invests 5% of its R&D budget in security innovation.
Through partnerships with the Ministry of ICT, KSG, and universities, Huawei trains students and professionals in cybersecurity and cloud technologies.
Ultimately, the week-long conference highlights Kenya’s leadership in promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors. Together, they aim to create a secure, inclusive, and innovative digital economy for Africa’s future.
