Kelly Khumalo won’t be performing at a forthcoming festival due to Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial

Kelly Khumalo has been cancelled from the Tribute To Women festival.

The singer is expected to perform alongside the likes of Mafikizolo, Amanda Black, and Pabi Cooper on the 12th of August, but she’s been pulled out of the lineup due to updates from the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

Over the past few days, a state Analyst who did an investigation on the case reported that the singer contacted one of the suspects months before the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was killed in her house by intruders.

The Tribute to Women team explained why Kelly won’t be performing at the festival.

“We have noted with great concern, various comments on social media platforms and calls from many patrons of our festival. We respect the legal processes and wish to indicate that Ms Kelly Khumalo is innocent until proven otherwise,” their statement reads.

“However, in the interest of safeguarding our festival this year, management has taken the decision to relieve Ms Khumalo of her obligations to perform at our festival this year to afford her and her team the time they require to deal with the issues emanating from the current court proceedings.”
