KCB Boosts Kenya’s Athletics with KShs. 8 Million
Support for National Championships and Global Trials
KCB has committed KShs. 8 million to Athletics Kenya to support two key events in this year’s athletics calendar. The funds will help host the Kenya National Athletics Championships from June 25–27, 2025, in Nairobi, and the World Athletics Championships trials scheduled for August 1–2, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.
Speaking at the sponsorship ceremony in Nairobi, KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo emphasized the bank’s deep-rooted belief in Kenya’s athletic talent and its potential. She noted that this partnership reflects KCB’s commitment to both nurturing excellence and inspiring the next generation of sports champions.
“Our work with Athletics Kenya is not just about money. It’s about building systems that support dreams and unify our nation through sport,” she said.
From the total amount, KShs. 4 million will go toward the National Championships. This event will feature both seasoned and upcoming athletes competing for national titles, medals, and team honors. The remaining KShs. 4 million will fund the Tokyo 2025 trials, which will determine who qualifies to represent Kenya at the World Athletics Championships in Japan from September 13–21.

Athletics Kenya President, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei welcomed the support, describing it as timely and impactful. “Strategic partnerships like this create champions,” he said. “The support from KCB offers both motivation and the resources we need to stay globally competitive.”
The World Championships will bring together over 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries. It will also be a historic occasion, as Tokyo becomes the first Asian city to host the event twice—the first time being in 1991.
Importantly, KCB’s backing extends beyond athletics. Over the past 20 years, the bank has invested over KShs. 3 billion in various sports, including football, rugby, golf, volleyball, and motorsports. This long-term investment reflects KCB’s broader goal: transforming lives, empowering youth, and building national pride through sports.
