Karen Young Runners delivered a commanding performance on Saturday morning to win the sixth edition of the FWD Nairobi Marathon Relay. They crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 15 seconds, comfortably ahead of Spartans Vanguards, who clocked 3 hours, 19 minutes, and 20 seconds. Leisurely Leopards followed in third place with a time of 3 hours, 21 minutes, and 1 second.

The event, held in Nairobi, attracted 1,200 participants and showcased spirited competition across mixed, men’s, and women’s teams. After guiding his team to victory, a beaming John Njori praised the experience. “It was such a well-organized event. My team and I enjoyed the race. We knew it would be tough considering the teams that had registered, but with early preparation and strong teamwork, we managed to cruise to victory. A hearty congratulations to all the other participants who came out to run today.”

Strong Showings in Women’s and Men’s Categories

In the women’s category, Warembo wa Badeq emerged champions after finishing in 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 49 seconds. Close behind were Run and Lift 105, who posted 2 hours, 55 minutes, and 10 seconds.

The men’s competition saw Trafford SportsWear lead the pack with an impressive time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 12 seconds. Badeq Shop 010 finished second, clocking 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 42 seconds—just 30 seconds behind.

Since its inception in 2021, the Nairobi Marathon Relay has grown steadily. The first event hosted 22 teams, limited by pandemic restrictions. By 2022, 40 teams had joined, and the same number participated in the 2023 edition, showing consistent interest from running clubs, corporate groups, and sponsors.

ABSA Life Marks 10-Year Milestone

For ABSA Life Assurance, this year’s event held special meaning. As the title sponsor of the 2025 Nairobi Marathon Relay, the company is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.

“This event is especially meaningful for us at ABSA Life,” said Waiguru Githanji, Managing Director of ABSA Life Assurance. “Just like many of you on the marathon course today, our journey hasn’t always been easy. We’ve faced hurdles, adjusted our stride, and kept pushing forward. Every challenge has made us stronger, and every milestone reminds us why we do this. We will continue partnering with FWD to inspire millions of athletics enthusiasts.”

The race began promptly at 6:30 a.m., with each six-member team completing a 7.2-kilometer circuit per runner. Teams drawn from corporates, running clubs, and partner organizations made the event both competitive and community-driven.
