Kakamega Sports Club to Host Lady Captain’s Tourney this Weekend
Over 200 golfers to tee off in honour of Lady Captain Beatrice Otieno
The fairways of Kakamega Sports Club are set to come alive this weekend as over 200 golfers descend on the lush course for the much-anticipated Lady Captain’s Tournament, a celebration of sport, leadership, and community spirit.
The four-day extravaganza, headlined by the vibrant Lady Captain Beatrice Otieno, has drawn entries from top amateurs, club golfers, rising juniors, and corporate guests from across the country. This year’s edition promises to be one of the largest and most colourful golf events in Western Kenya.
“This tournament is not just a celebration of my captaincy, but a celebration of the sport we love, the friendships we have built, and the bright future of golf in our region. I am truly humbled by the incredible support from the golfing community. The course is in pristine condition and we cannot wait to hit the fairways,” said Lady Captain Beatrice Otieno.
The main 18-hole stroke play event tees off Saturday morning at 6:30 am, with golfers competing in various categories including men’s, ladies’, juniors, and invited guests.
Winners will walk away with exciting prizes, but all participants can expect a well-curated golf experience, from beautifully manicured greens to a festive prize-giving gala complete with live entertainment, fine dining, and heartfelt tributes.

Tech Meets Tradition: Tindi App to Launch at the Tournament
The event will also see the official launch of Tindi, a youth-powered app that turns attention into a new form of social currency. When 19-year-old Emmanuel Okola Opati came across the Swahili word Tindi—meaning to social drink—while reading a setbook, an idea sparked.
What began as a thought about digitising social moments has grown into a dynamic app shaping Kenya’s entertainment scene. Tindi lets users upload “Moments” from events and earn “Tindi Points,” which they can redeem for perks such as event tickets, discounts, and VIP access at partner venues.
Designed for youth, by youth, the app uses a sleek interface and a live “Tindi Tribe” feed to spotlight the hottest happenings. It rewards users for being social, while offering brands a tool that combines marketing and sales through smart reward mechanics.
With Britam backing youth creators through the “Tindi Creator Program,” the platform plans to empower young people with both income and visibility. It aims to fix fragmented event listings by creating a centralized, youth-driven hub for entertainment.
Back at Kakamega Sports Club, the festivities kick off midweek with a club nite on Wednesday. Friday, June 20, will see over 100 caddies showcase their skills during the Caddies Tournament. Saturday will feature both the main golf event and a tennis tournament, adding a multi-sport flavour to the weekend.
On Sunday, the focus shifts to the future of the game with a Junior Golf Tournament featuring over 80 young players. A pool tournament will also take place, ensuring that the entire weekend remains vibrant and inclusive.
Club officials have praised Lady Captain Otieno’s leadership, saying the scale of the event marks a defining moment for the club and underscores the rising golf culture in the region.
