Israeli sighting specialist Smartshooter has unveiled a portable counter-drone system with an assault rifle as the effector.

The rifle is controlled through the Smash Dome’s Smash Hopper remote-controlled weapon station.

For greater target engagement accuracy, the station uses a ballistically calculated fire control system.

It can be integrated with a command-and-control system for automatic target detection and tracking and real-time calculated ballistic solutions.

According to the company, Smash Hopper can accommodate additional weapons and ammunition as kinetic effectors to engage a variety of drones.

The lightweight solution can be mounted on both manned and unmanned vehicles as well as on ground and static platforms.

Integrated Target Detection

Smash Dome incorporates both active radio frequency radar and passive optical detection systems for target detection, classification, and tracking.

Once a target is detected, the sensors relay the data to Smash Dome’s proprietary tracking system for real-time monitoring and interception readiness.

The system’s target detection range is 1-2 kilometers (0.62-1.24 miles).

Additionally, it offers a man-in-the-loop option wherein the operator visually confirms the target through fire control system inputs, leading to automatic target tracking and a kinetic response upon the operator’s order.

“Our world is increasingly facing the challenge of rogue drones disrupting and endangering critical areas,” Smartshooter CEO Michal Mor was quoted as saying in a press release.

“Smash Dome, powered by our unique Smash technology, provides a cost-effective and precise solution to this threat. Its seamless integration with existing command-and-control systems makes it a versatile asset, serving as both a standalone defence and an essential ‘insurance policy’ for passive C-UAS solutions.”
