Damien Hirst is responsible for many things, but we never thought we’d see a dessert inspired by the ubiquitous British artist. Hirst’s epic sculpture of Medusa at Bacchanalia, a Greco-Roman restaurant in London’s Mayfair, has inspired an extravagant new pudding at the restaurant costing £50. “The culinary director Athinagoras Kostakos has made a perfect copy using a mini mould, which is an exact replica of the sculpture overhead. The dessert, which depicts a head of snakes, combines coconut and tonka cream with exotic fruit and crunchy cocoa nibs,” says a restaurant statement. Hirst’s five sculptures are dotted around Bacchanalia and are as understated as ever… just kidding! The vast pieces depict a winged lion, a unicorn mounted by a pair of winged lovers, another unicorn, Medusa and of course Bacchus. The Greco-Roman theme is taken to the extreme with 2,000-year-old artefacts on show amongst the diners. We’ll have the carpe diem with chips please.
