Iran hosted a joint conference with BRICS Ambassadors on Wednesday to discuss strategic relations and economic cooperation. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian chaired the interaction and it was headed by South Africa’s BRICS Ambassador Anil Sooklal. The two personnel discussed multilateral partnership prospects and touched upon topics like energy reserves, oil, and gas trade.

Amir-Abdollahian told reporters after the conference that Iran is a “reliable and influential” partner of the BRICS bloc. Tehran aims to become a member of the BRICS alliance and challenge the global dominance of the U.S. The White House’s sanctions against Tehran are what’s making the country join BRICS to revive its economy.

Ambassador Sooklal revealed that the key meeting with Iran was a “very vibrant and stimulating conference”. Abdollahian said that Iran joining BRICS will boost the alliance’s prospects in various economic sectors. According to Abdollahian, Iran’s entry into BRICS could help the bloc gain access to huge energy reserves, especially oil and gas.

“Iran is a reliable and influential partner in bilateral and multilateral cooperation thanks to its strategic and unique geographical location, huge energy reserves, especially oil and gas, cheap and short transportation and transit network, young and expert manpower, and modern scientific and technological achievements,” said Abdollahian.
