Media Briefing Sets the Stage for February Expo
Organisers of Intersolar Africa 2026 on Tuesday outlined East Africa’s rising importance in the global solar and energy storage market.
They spoke during a media breakfast held in Nairobi, ahead of the exhibition and conference scheduled for 3–4 February 2026 at the Sarit Expo Centre.
The organisers said the event will bring together solar and energy storage professionals from across East Africa and beyond. The aim is to unlock investment, showcase innovation, and strengthen regional market linkages.
East Africa Emerges as a High-Growth Clean Energy Market
Speaking at the briefing, Georg Pflomm, Project Manager Energy at AHK Eastern Africa, said East Africa ranks among Africa’s most dynamic clean energy markets.
He linked this momentum to rising electricity demand, declining solar technology costs, and the growing need for reliable power. As a result, solar and storage solutions are gaining traction across the region.
“Intersolar Africa builds on more than 30 years of global experience connecting the solar and energy storage industry,” Pflomm said. “With rapid regional growth, Nairobi offers an ideal platform to accelerate East Africa’s energy transition.”
From Global Roots to a Stronger African Presence
Founded in Germany in 1991, Intersolar has grown into the world’s leading exhibition series for solar photovoltaics and energy storage. The platform has attracted more than 200,000 visitors and nearly 5,000 exhibitors worldwide.
Africa hosted its first Intersolar event in 2025. That conference-only summit drew strong participation and highlighted the need for a larger, exhibition-led platform in East Africa. Consequently, Intersolar Africa 2026 will significantly expand its scope.

What to Expect at Intersolar Africa 2026
The 2026 edition will feature about 100 exhibitors alongside a high-level conference. Industry leaders will discuss developments in solar PV, energy storage, grid management, charging infrastructure, finance, and policy.
Through these discussions, the organisers aim to connect ideas with bankable projects.
Energy Storage Takes Centre Stage
During the briefing, speakers noted that Africa holds nearly 60% of the world’s best solar resources. However, solar still accounts for a small share of electricity generation.
Even so, rapid growth in East Africa is shifting the landscape. Commercial and industrial solar installations are increasing, while investment in mini-grids and battery storage continues to rise.
Energy storage is emerging as a key enabler. It supports grid stability, reduces reliance on diesel generation, and helps address power shortages affecting countries such as Kenya.
Beyond Technology: Partnerships and Market Readiness
“Intersolar Africa is not just about technology,” Pflomm added. “It is about partnerships, market-ready solutions, and creating the conditions for reliable, affordable, and sustainable power across the region.”
By convening developers, investors, policymakers, and technology providers, the event aims to move conversations from potential to implementation.
