The Indian Ministry of Defence has awarded Mahindra a contract to deliver 1,986 Scorpio Pik-Up vehicles to the army.

Valued at 2.7 billion Indian rupees ($31.5 million), the deal builds on a previously signed framework with the Mumbai-based company for more than 4,000 Scorpio platforms, a report from The Hindustan Times said.

Under the broader project, the force will receive various variants, including the Scorpio Pik-Up, Scorpio Classic, and Scorpio-N.

Additionally, the package will include the Bolero Pik-Up cargo vehicle, which offers a larger payload capacity for logistics missions.

Beyond these fleets, the Indian Army will also receive more than 7,000 Scorpio SUVs through another contract awarded to Mahindra.

The Scorpio Pik-Up

Mahindra’s Scorpio Pik-Up is a 5-meter (16-foot) system with a ground clearance of 210 millimeters (8.2 inches) and a weight of 1,755 kilograms (3,869 pounds).

It is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine with 140 horsepower and features a six-speed automatic transmission.

The vehicle has a payload capacity of approximately 1,100 kilograms (2,425 pounds), a towing capacity of up to 2,500 kilograms (5,512 pounds), and seating for up to five people.

Its top speed is 160 kilometers (99 miles) per hour.

Order for 2,900 Gurkha Vehicles

New Delhi in March announced another deal with Madhya Pradesh-based Force Motors to provide the Indian Defence Forces with 2,978 Gurkha light strike vehicles.

The 4×4 SUV platform is equipped with a 2.6-liter diesel engine producing 140 horsepower and a five-speed manual transmission, enabling a top speed of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour.
