As part of the ACES/SPOKE program’s ongoing support to strengthen cold-chain ecosystems and improve postharvest management, this brochure provides farmers and community groups with practical, easy-to-use guidance on common nutrient deficiencies, pests, and diseases affecting key horticultural crops in Kenya.

Developed in partnership with the Clean Cooling Network and produced with insights from the Lari Horticultural Farmers’ Cooperative Society (LHFCSL), the resource equips farmers with:

  • Clear identification signs for nutrient deficiencies
  • Visual guides for common pests and diseases
  • Practical, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solutions
  • Recommended corrective actions to reduce pre-harvest losses
  • Maintain high-quality produce while also achieving higher yields

This brochure supports the broader goals of the ACES/SPOKE model—helping communities build stronger, climate-resilient production systems alongside cold-chain integration. By improving crop health, farmers can deliver higher-quality produce to markets, reduce spoilage, and maximize the benefits of cold storage and aggregation.

We invite farmers, partners, and practitioners to download and use this guide as a key resource in strengthening horticultural production across the SPOKE communities and beyond.
