I&M Bank Launches Nine New Branches Under ‘Mahali Tuko’ Expansion Drive

I&M Bank will open nine new branches across Kenya in 2026. The move strengthens its financial inclusion agenda under the Mahali Uko, Tuko campaign.

The expansion brings banking services closer to communities in high-potential growth areas.

The new branches will operate in Ngong Town, Kitengela, Nyahururu, Kitui, Homa Bay, Migori, Wote, Our Mall–Magadi Road, and Utawala. These regions continue to record strong growth in agribusiness, real estate, MSMEs, and education.

Community-Centred Banking Model

Kihara Maina, Regional CEO of I&M Bank, said the campaign reflects the bank’s commitment to local communities.

“Our ‘Mahali Uko, Tuko’ campaign reflects our vision of being present where our customers live and work. These branches are more than physical outlets. They are community hubs that promote financial inclusion and support local enterprises,” he said.

He added that the bank is positioning itself in areas with strong agricultural value chains and expanding property markets. As a result, underserved populations can unlock new economic opportunities.

Strengthening the Agricultural Backbone

Through branches in Ngong, Nyahururu, Kitui, Homa Bay, and Migori, the bank is deepening its presence in Kenya’s agricultural zones.

These regions support livestock farming, fish farming, and diverse crop production. Therefore, the bank will offer tailored agricultural financing, value chain support, and SACCO partnerships.

Meanwhile, the Kitengela, Our Mall, and Utawala branches will serve fast-growing residential and commercial corridors.

These areas attract property developers, land investors, and an expanding middle-class population. In addition, the bank will target the youth segment through innovative digital banking solutions. The presence of colleges and learning institutions further strengthens this opportunity.

Comprehensive Service Centres

The new branches will operate as full-service banking centres. They will offer:

  • Full-service banking with extended operating hours

  • Business banking for SMEs and agricultural enterprises

  • Digital banking support and customer education

  • Financial literacy and community engagement programs

  • Dedicated relationship managers

  • Community-led initiatives through the I&M Foundation

Blending Digital and Physical Banking

Maina noted that customers still value physical branch access.

“While digital channels continue to grow, customers appreciate the assurance that comes with a physical branch. This is especially true for business loans, agricultural financing, and property investment,” he said.

He added that the new outlets will combine digital convenience with personalised service. Consequently, the bank will address each community’s unique financial needs.

Sustained Network Growth

In addition, I&M Bank will integrate into the new communities through on-ground activations and CSR initiatives. These programs will create meaningful engagement with residents.

In 2025, the bank opened 11 new branches. This increased its network from 52 to 65 outlets across 27 counties.

The additional nine branches will move the bank closer to its target of 80 branches by the end of 2026. Ultimately, I&M aims to establish a presence in all 47 counties.
