Huawei Technologies, in partnership with local stakeholders proudly celebrated the graduation of 180 young individuals who have successfully completed the Huawei DigiTruck program in Dagoretti South.

The ceremony, held today, marks a significant milestone in empowering the next generation of tech leaders with the digital skills required to thrive in today’s fast-evolving ICT industry.

The Huawei DigiTruck initiative, aims to bridge the digital divide by providing accessible ICT training in underserved communities.

Huawei DigiTruck Graduation Ceremony Celebrates 180 New Graduates in Dagoretti South

Through the program, participants gained vital skills in areas such as cloud computing, coding, and digital literacy, equipping them for the future of work in the technology sector, in line with the government’s agenda of building a digital workforce and economy.

The graduates were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Huawei Innovation Challenge, an initiative designed to foster creativity and problem-solving through technology.

Participants in the challenge developed solutions to address local community issues, demonstrating the power of technology to drive change.

“We are incredibly proud of the 180 graduates here today. Their dedication and passion for learning have positioned them to make meaningful contributions to the digital economy,” said Khadija Mohammed Ahmed, Media Director, Huawei Technologies.

“This is not just a graduation; it’s the beginning of a new chapter for these talented young people. Through the Huawei ICT Academy, they now have access to global opportunities that will help them continue growing and innovating in the ICT field”, she added.

The graduation ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including community leaders, program mentors, and Huawei representatives.

Huawei DigiTruck Graduation Ceremony Celebrates 180 New Graduates in Dagoretti South

Hon. John Kiarie, MP for Dagoretti South lauded the partnership saying that collaboration between private sector players and government was a key strategy for catalysing digital transformation.

The Huawei ICT Academy offers graduates the opportunity to further enhance their skills through advanced certifications, internships, and job placements, opening doors to a range of career possibilities.

As part of the global Huawei ecosystem, graduates will be able to connect with industry leaders and gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, AI, and cloud computing.

The DigiTruck program is part of Huawei’s ongoing commitment to investing in Kenya’s future by developing a sustainable talent ecosystem in ICT.

The program has already trained thousands of young people across Kenya, and today’s graduation further solidifies Huawei’s role as a key player in developing local talent and fostering innovation.

Hon. John Kiarie, Dagoretti South MP expressed his joy on the impact the Digitruck ICT literacy program was having in the community by empowering them for better livelihoods.

“These graduates are a true testament to the potential that exists in our communities when young people are given the right tools and opportunities. We are excited for what the future holds for them.”

He further emphasized the importance of technology in spurring growth and advancement of all economic sectors, saying “In today’s world, no discipline stands alone independent of technology. If you think education, you have to think EduTech, for Agriculture, AgriTech, finance, FinTech, if you think Health, you have to think HealthTech and so on. Meaning that, Digital Skills, today, are as important as Basic Literacy and Numeracy.”

Speaking during the launch, Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Director at Huawei Technologies Kenya challenged the youth to develop their digital skills further and use technology to secure livelihoods and solve problems in their communities.

“The skills you’ve gained are not only designed to propel you into the digital space but also to help you create solutions for your communities and access job opportunities through various online platforms. We encourage all young people to continue learning and upskilling, exploring new areas of growth as emerging technologies take center stage in our increasingly digital world.”

The Huawei DigiTruck program has become an important initiative in Kenya’s ICT and digital literacy landscape, helping to cultivate a new generation of tech-savvy youth ready to lead in the digital age.

In doing so, Digitruck contributes to the attainment of local, regional and global development goals by building a digitally-skilled youth workforce to drive a digital economy.
