How Samsung Is Making AI Work for Kenyan Homes

Insights from Sam Odhiambo, Head of Consumer Electronics Division, Samsung East Africa

Kenyan households juggle many daily demands, from managing rising energy costs to keeping up with busy family schedules.

Samsung is responding to these realities by embedding artificial intelligence into home appliances in ways that feel practical, not futuristic.

Through its Bespoke AI range and the SmartThings AI ecosystem, the company is turning everyday appliances into smart partners that help families save time, reduce costs, and live more comfortably.

At the heart of Samsung’s approach is local relevance. AI-powered refrigerators, for example, use hybrid cooling systems that learn household usage patterns. They adjust cooling based on which compartments families access most, helping preserve food for longer while using energy more efficiently.

Washing machines equipped with AI Wash technology go a step further. They detect load types, recommend efficient wash cycles, and automatically adjust water levels. As a result, households reduce waste while still getting optimal cleaning results.

AI That Fits Into Daily Life

For many consumers, AI feels abstract until it shows up in simple, useful ways. Samsung bridges this gap through its SmartThings AI platform, which connects appliances directly to Galaxy smartphones.

From anywhere, users can start a wash cycle, monitor energy use, or receive smart recommendations. Notifications for filter changes or maintenance also help families prevent problems before they disrupt daily routines. In this way, AI quietly supports households without adding complexity.

From Global Innovation to Local Impact

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Samsung showcased advanced AI concepts, including intelligent kitchen assistants, energy-optimised appliances, and learning home technologies.

While some innovations remain in early stages, the intelligence behind them already powers products available in Kenya. This ensures that local consumers benefit from global research, adapted to suit local needs.

Looking ahead, Samsung plans to deepen its focus on Africa by prioritising durability, energy efficiency, predictive maintenance, and easy-to-use smart features. The goal is clear: appliances that think ahead and adapt to real lives.

Ultimately, Samsung positions itself not just as an appliance maker, but as a technology partner. By blending global AI innovation with local insight, the company aims to make Kenyan homes smarter, more efficient, and better prepared for the future.
