About Hon. Mkhuleko Hlengwa
Hon. Mkhuleko Hlengwa (born 12 June 1987) has served as South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Transport since July 2024 and has been a Member of Parliament for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) since 2012. As a national spokesperson for the IFP, Hlengwa has played a pivotal role in shaping policy and governance. His leadership was further solidified as Chairperson of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) from 2019 to 2024, where he led critical investigations into state capture and held state-owned enterprises accountable. With a strong background in parliamentary oversight and public sector accountability, Hlengwa is recognized for his dedication to advancing South Africa’s transport infrastructure. Born in Mfume, KwaZulu-Natal, Hlengwa has been active in politics from a young age, rising through the ranks as Chairperson of the IFP Youth Brigade (2011-2019) and later being appointed as the party’s spokesperson in 2018. Following his re-election in 2024, his appointment as Deputy Minister of Transport in a coalition government solidified his growing influence in South African politics.
