The African Center invites art enthusiasts to the second Harlem African Animation Festival, which will take place on November 8–9, 2023. The festival will feature film screenings and lively talks. It also honours African animators by bringing together film and media professionals to discuss narrative and industry-related subjects.

The goal of the Harlem African Animation Festival is to provide a gateway to contemporary Africa, foster a sense of belonging for African immigrants, and promote dialogue and mutual understanding between Africa and the Black Diaspora.

This festival, which debuted in 2021, is the first of its type in the United States. It is solely dedicated to African animated films and programs. Animation, like live-action cinema, has a long history in Africa, mirroring the expansion of the African screen media production business. The event lineup features:

Wednesday, November 8th

  • From Here to Timbuktu, Kenya
  • Ayam, Morocco
  • $75000, Mali
  • A Kalabanda Ate my Homework, Uganda
  • Super Dad, Nigeria.
  • Tempête dans une calebasse (Storm in a calabash), Burkina Faso
  • The Passport of Mallam Ilia, Nigeria
  • Fady le village des transformés (Fady, village of the mutated), Mali
  • Valentine, Côte d’Ivoire

Thursday, November 9th

  • Troll Girl, South Africa
  • Mboa Matanda, Cameroon
  • I’m Living in Ghana Get Me Out OF HERE, Ghana
  • Kenda, Côte d’Ivoire
  • Sip, Nigeria

The event is to take place at The Africa Center at Aliko Dangote Hall, 1280 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10029 United States.
