Dale Willem Steyn, one of the greatest and fastest bowlers of all time, turned 40 today i.e. June 27, 2023.
Steyn rushing in at full speed and hitting 150+ has been one of the most captivating views of Test cricket in the 21st century. He shapes the trademark outswinger away from a leg-stump line at will which opens up the batter’s stance to smash the top of the off-stump.
Dale Steyn emerged as one of the most comprehensive fast bowlers of his era, with an iconic front-on action, a release focused on landing it on a length, a blistering pace equal to it, and a sharp mind that pairs well with the athleticism. The Phalaborwa-born bowler has caused many batters horrors with his intimidating run-up, swinging deliveries, and yorkers in 93 Test matches and 125 One Day Internationals (ODI) in which the quickster has claimed 439 Test wickets and 196 ODI wickets to his credit.
His professional life has not been altogether trouble-free; in his first Test series in 2004, Steyn only got eight wickets in six games before being dropped. But the lightning-fast bowler soon made a vengeful comeback and has caused havoc ever since. In 2005, he made his one-day international debut, and by 2014, he had taken more than 100 wickets.
Throughout his career, the Steyn gun has achieved a lot of success on the crease and off the field as well. The bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had signed some lucrative endorsement deals over the years which also enhanced his brand value. Let’s take a look at the South African great’s performance on the commercial pitch:
Net worth:
Dale Steyn’s net worth is estimated to be approximately $16 million in 2023. His vast fortune can be credited to his deals with Cricket South Africa (CSA), Indian Premier League (IPL) and brand endorsements.
Steyn is also the owner of some of the most expensive cars in the world, including Mercedes-Benz and Audi Q8.
Endorsements:
Throughout the years, Steyn has inked numerous endorsement deals, the list includes some big brands like Parimatch, New Balance and Ocean Freedom.
Charity:
In an effort to improve the lives of those who are less fortunate, Steyn, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis gave their former T20 World Cup shirts to the All in Africa movement in 2020.
In addition, the 40-year-old and other SRH colleagues took part in the 2014 Sunrisers-Juvenile Cancer Patients charity cricket match at the Apollo Cancer Hospital in Jubilee Hills for the benefit of young patients with cancer.
