The ever-charismatic Rob Gronkowski never truly closes the door on his NFL endeavors. During a recent appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams,” the topic of Gronk’s potential return to the gridiron took center stage.
Gronkowski playfully remarked,
Brian Daboll wants me on his roster, I know it.
When host Kay Adams pressed him about the likelihood of an NFL comeback, Gronkowski, in his typical fashion, quipped, “I love to pretend that I could still play.” Though Adams was quick to assure Gronk of his remaining ability, he responded, “No I can’t, I’m washed up. I just like to pretend.”
On probing which coach might lure him back to football, Gronk highlighted Brian Daboll, the energetic Giants head coach. He quickly clarified, saying,
He can’t get me out of retirement, but he would have the best chance to.
Such a return would likely see Gronk teaming up with tight end Darren Waller, a scenario Gronkowski finds attractive.
“I always believe that having two tight ends makes the defense have the most difficult times,” he stated.
Gronk finished his NFL with four Super Bowl wins, all of which with Tom Brady
Gronkowski alluded to his former pairing with Aaron Hernandez during their Patriots tenure, though he noticeably avoided naming him directly. He emphasized the power of a dual tight end setup, asserting that it can provide an offense nearly unbeatable, enhancing both the run and passing game.
After initially retiring post-2018, Gronkowski made a celebrated return to join Tom Brady in Tampa Bay for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The tight end, boasting four Super Bowl championships and All-Pro titles, retired once again after this stint.
