Ghana’s Communication and Technology Ministry announced that operators MTN, Telecel, and AirtelTigo have committed to investing a combined US$150 million this year to enhance their networks, driven by regulatory demands for improved service.

The announcement was made by Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George. He also disclosed that starting July 1, mobile data bundles will increase in value, though specific details were not provided.

The operators aim to enhance customer experience and ensure more transparent billing. The National Communications Authority, Ghana’s telecoms watchdog, will conduct a quality of service assessment in the fourth quarter of this year to evaluate operators’ efforts in improving connectivity, with penalties looming for those who fail to meet standards.

Additionally, operators will increase data bundle sizes by 15% without raising prices. The minister suggested that a reduction in data prices could occur, contingent on the upcoming tax rationalisation by the Ministry of Finance and a review of telecom tariffs by the government.
