Legal proceedings and court’s decision

The prosecution informed the court that all necessary legal processes for his extradition had been finalised and requested a quick adjournment for the next hearing. The court, however, denied Agordotse bail, expressing concerns that he might flee if released.

“Considering the steps being taken by the state to extradite the accused to Nigeria for trial, the accused may not appear before the court if set at liberty,” the judge ruled.

“Accordingly, the accused is remanded into police custody.”

Agordotse, in his defence, told the court that he had already spent one month in custody.

The court subsequently adjourned the case to 12th March 2025.

Details of the alleged theft

The prosecution revealed that Agordotse had stolen company assets worth 8,760,000 Naira, including: a KIA Cerato saloon car, two motorcycles, a laptop, a mobile phone, a flat-screen television and 180,000 Naira in cash

According to the investigation, on 13th January 2025, INTERPOL Abuja sent a signal notifying Ghanaian authorities of Agordotse’s arrest by the Accra Central Police Command. Following the notification, Ghanaian police took over the case and began further questioning.

During investigations, Agordotse reportedly confessed to stealing the items, confirming that he committed the offence while working as the company’s Operations Manager.

His extradition to Abuja, Nigeria, is expected to proceed in the coming days, where he will face trial for theft.
