The Ghana Post Company launched a first-ever ‘crypto stamp’ to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of ceremonial ruler Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The ruler ascended the Asantehene throne in 1999 ruling the Ashanti people for two and a half decades. For the uninitiated, the Asantehene throne is a traditional golden stool known as the Sika ‘dwa.

Commemorating the milestone, the Ghana Post Company dedicated the crypto stamps to His Majesty’s reign. Ghana’s Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful praised the Post Company for coming up with innovative ideas of commemoration.

The Minister said that the crypto stamps reflect the rich cultural heritage that blends with modern technology such as the blockchain. “This commemorative stamp, is, therefore, a reflection of our national pride and identity. And serves as a reminder of the inextricable link between our traditional values and our wild anticipations. Reminding us that our rich cultural heritage is the foundation on which our nation’s future is built,” he said.

Kuffour explained that the crypto stamps will serve as a bridge connecting Ghana’s older and younger generations. A report from the Ghans Postal Company states that four different stamps have been unveiled to commemorate Tutu II’s ascension. One among them is the crypto stamp that will be based on blockchain technology.

All four stamps will have dual purposes to preserve and promote the nation’s legacy. “Preserving the legacy of the Ghanaian royal family and promoting the West African nation globally,” read the details about the crypto stamps.
