The Ghana Navy, U.S. Naval Forces Africa (NAVAF) and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Africa (MARFORAF) will host a combined African Maritime Forces Summit (AMFS) and Naval Infantry Leaders Symposium-Africa (NILS-A) in Accra, Ghana, April 30-May 2, 2024.

Maritime and governmental leaders from across Africa and throughout the world are scheduled to attend the combined event, underscoring these partners and Allies’ mutual commitment to addressing regional challenges and opportunities together.

Through the course of the combined event, these leaders, including Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo and Ghana’s Chief of the Naval Staff Rear Adm. Issah Adam Yakubu; Gen. Michael Langley, commander, U.S. Africa Command; Adm. Stuart Munsch, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples; Maj. Gen. Robert Sofge, commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe-Africa; and military chiefs and governmental leaders from more than 40 nations will participate in a series of panels and focused discussions concerning maritime security and collaboration.

These discussions and connections will improve interoperability across domains and continents, strengthening strategic-level relationships to help facilitate better regional cooperation when dealing with maritime threats.

This is the second convening of AMFS, after Cabo Verde hosted the inaugural edition of the Summit in March 2023. It is also the third NILS-A, with the most recent convening occurring in Dakar, Senegal in 2022. AMFS/NILS-A 2024 marks the first time these fora have been combined into a single event.
