German firm Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with 20 additional Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles by the first half of 2025.

Berlin will finance the delivery, which is valued at “a mid-range double-digit million euro amount.”

The Marder 1A3 features an upgraded laser rangefinder to enhance target engagement capabilities.

Previous Deliveries

Since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began in 2022, Germany has supplied Kyiv with multiple Marder tanks.

Most recently, Rheinmetall handed over a batch of 20 of the vehicles in October.

Earlier this year, Kyiv received another delivery of 20 Marders from the company.

The first delivery on behalf of the German government occurred in March 2023, and the company said it supplied Ukraine with hundreds of Marders since.

Maintenance and Repair Hub

As tank deliveries from Germany to Ukraine continue, Rheinmetall has also established a maintenance and repair hub on Ukrainian soil.

Since its opening in June, the facility has been providing maintenance and overhauling services for Marder infantry fighting vehicles.

The company plans to expand its support by maintaining Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 main battle tanks, along with other German-made systems, at various facilities in Ukraine.

Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said, “it is a matter close to our hearts to provide Ukraine with effective and reliable support.”

“To achieve this, we utilize existing channels via original manufacturers, process material ourselves and with partners. We are also reactivating original supply chains and integrating local production in Ukraine.”
