The German Armed Forces has completed a four-week operation testing Thales PR4G and SYNAPS-H radio systems’ compliance with NATO’s multinational battlegroups in Eastern Europe.
The Thales system features advanced networking capabilities, maintaining a stable radio frequency with higher data rates to coordinate various frontline units.
“The PR4G and SYNAPS-H radios met the requirements so effectively that they were deemed suitable for deployment in the German armed forces,” explained Christoph Ruffner, Thales Country Manager for Germany.
NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence
After the test phase, the Thales radio systems could be used to equip NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) battlegroups.
Established in 2016, the eFP battlegroups are deployed along the northern, central, and eastern European NATO members’ frontiers.
The initiative is led by the UK, Germany, Canada, and the US to create a mechanism of deterrence and defense on Europe’s eastern borders, especially in the Baltic states and Poland.
After the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, additional battle groups were established in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia.
