The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has received its first Airbus H145M as part of a contract for up to 82 helicopters.

The initial chopper completed its maiden flight in Bavaria in September. After the recent delivery, it will be used for training operations at the German Army’s Bückeburg base.

In August this year, Bundeswehr pilots started training for the new H145Ms, which they named the “Leichter Kampfhubschrauber (LKH)” or “light combat helicopter.”

Meanwhile, the first H145M LKH in the light attack role is anticipated for delivery in 2025 as per the contract signed in December 2023, which includes 62 firm orders, an option for 20 additional units, and seven years of support and services.

Out of the 62 helicopters, 57 will go to the German Army while five will be used by the Luftwaffe special forces.

The incoming LKH fleet will be used for training, reconnaissance, special forces operations, and light attack as the German armed forces already operate 24 H145s for special forces operations and search and rescue missions.

“We remain a reliable partner of the German Bundeswehr. Delivering the first H145M LKH in less than a year after the contract signature demonstrates our commitment. The H145M LKH will be a true multi-mission asset for the German Armed Forces, supporting their crucial missions,” said Stefan Thomé, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Germany.
