South Africa’s water utilities are in a precarious state. Major metros are struggling to deliver water. Smaller towns and cities prop up ailing infrastructure and declining revenues. Nearly half of municipal water goes missing before it can generate revenue. For a country considered one of the driest on the planet, South Africa needs to act to ensure its water security.

The water sector provides solutions, including an impressive range of tested technologies to help turn the tide. These options include water data analytics, smart devices and sensors, new generation pumps, and many more breakthroughs that raise efficiencies and revenues. Yet, the promise of technology for water is just one dimension. Utilities are complex environments governed by multi-decade timelines, extensive investments, and long-term policy choices. While the country faces a growing water crisis, this is not enough to change direction—especially for frontline professionals tasked with creating change and modernisation. It requires a combination of technology and an ecosystem of support to ensure that ambition becomes reality.

In an upcoming live webinar hosted by Creamer Media and Xylem Africa, four expert panellists will unpack these issues, including:

  • The challenges faced by professionals at South Africa’s water utilities
  • How water technology can cross the sector’s biggest hurdles
  • Best practices and real-world successes on the continent
  • Ways to build a support ecosystem and advance water policies
  • Future opportunities such as water tokens and circular economies.

Register to join this free online webinar, taking place on 02 October 2024 from 14:00 – 15:00, and listen to the panel of experts unpack the topic:

  • Dr Anthony Turton, Environmental Advisor, Speaker, and Author: Dr Turton is a Professor at UFS’ Centre for Environmental Management and Editor of the World Water Council’s official journal.
