EnerMech has been awarded a five-year, multi-million pound contract by TotalEnergies EP Congo for crane and lifting maintenance at a new local facility.

The contract, worth £12 million, will see the Aberdeen-headquartered services firm handle the maintenance of crane and lifting equipment at a new site to be built at Pointe-Noire, the second largest city in Congo-Brazzaville.

The award also covers onshore and offshore parts supply for three offshore sectors including Likouf and Nkossa, as well as riser pulling systems, mooring and tensioning systems.

EnerMech has established a new entity, EnerMech Congo, to carry out the work and has sub-contracted local Congolese company Congo Services to assist.

It is currently recruiting Congolese personnel in onshore contract support roles, while its new partner will provide experienced maintenance personnel.

The firm said new developments at Pointe-Noire would also bring “lasting technical provision” and further local employment opportunities.

It has previously worked with TotalEnergies SE on projects across Africa, and in Congo on contract to Technip on the Moho Nord project.

The deep offshore oil project lies some 40 miles off the Congolese coast and came on stream in March 2017. Operated by TotalEnergies (53,5 %) alongside Chevron (31.5%) and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (15%) it is the largest oil project ever undertaken in the Republic of the Congo, with plateau production of 140,000 barrels of oil per day.

EnerMech VP for Africa Steve Swanson said: “We have a well-established relationship with TotalEnergies which goes back many years. We’re very pleased that they continue to see the value of the trusted and experienced service that we provide and chose EnerMech to work with them on this new project in Congo.”

Regional director Paul Cockerill said this was the latest in a series of new and existing crane, lifting, operations and maintenance contract wins for the group.

“We are committed to not only adhering to, but exceeding, local content requirements through engagement of our global network of Subject Matter Experts with minimal ex-pat project resourcing and we have a highly successful, proactive regional employee training and development plan.

“Where possible, as is the case here with Congo Services, we engage in-country subcontractors and utilize local supply chains.”

Meanwhile, TotalEnergies has mooted plans to drill an exploration well on the Marine XX offshore licence this year.
