The Federal Government has announced that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State will be temporarily closed for essential repairs for a duration of 21 days, beginning Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 7:00 a.m.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, indicated that some sections of the bridge will be completely closed, while others will experience partial closures during the maintenance period.
The repair work will include lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings and perform other critical maintenance tasks aimed at enhancing safety and comfort for both motorists and pedestrians.
Kesha acknowledged that this closure may cause inconvenience but emphasized the importance of these repairs for maintaining the bridge’s structural integrity and safety. She also assured the public that traffic diversions have been planned, with traffic officials present to manage the situation and provide guidance.
She urged residents, commuters, and business owners to prepare in advance and work together during the repair period. Safety signs and traffic management measures will be implemented to minimize disruptions.
