The Federal Government has proudly introduced a groundbreaking digital platform that empowers Nigerians to report deceitful practices within housing estates, seamlessly upload supporting documents, and diligently monitor the status of their grievances.
This remarkable initiative was unveiled on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, symbolizing a pivotal advancement toward bolstering accountability and transparency in the real estate domain.
The launch was accompanied by illustrative demonstrations from technical consultants, Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited.
The Ministry emphatically asserted that unscrupulous activities in housing estates will no longer be tolerated, and that perpetrators will face the full force of the law.
The newly inaugurated Housing Fraud Reporting Portal equips citizens to report fraudulent activities occurring in housing estates, provide substantiating evidence, and keep track of their cases.
Accessible through the user-friendly link https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, the portal offers a secure platform for individuals to report instances of fraud in housing estates nationwide.
Complaints lodged through the system will be meticulously reviewed by the Ministry in conjunction with pertinent stakeholders, including professional associations, law enforcement bodies, and the judiciary.
“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has debuted a Housing Fraud Reporting web-based platform designed to enable citizens to document incidents of fraud related to housing estates. “The platform, bearing the sub-domain name https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, allows users to file complaints and provide essential evidence and information regarding fraudulent activities in the real estate sector throughout the nation,” the statement detailed in part.
Alongside the fraud reporting portal, the Ministry unveiled the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System aimed at strengthening oversight concerning housing projects.
This platform facilitates real-time tracking of project status, assesses contractor performance against critical benchmarks, and creates a centralized repository for project documentation, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.
Both platforms were crafted to enhance scrutiny of housing projects and foster transparency in real estate transactions across the country.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa stated that this initiative aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which advocates for more stringent regulation of the housing sector, certification of estate developers, and safeguarding citizens from deceitful entities.
Dangiwa further remarked that the policy necessitated an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to oversee housing delivery and ensure that all professionals within the built environment are appropriately registered. Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, Dr. Marcus Amiolemen emphasized that both platforms exemplify the Ministry’s dedication to safeguarding citizens and enhancing service delivery.
He highlighted that the fraud portal was created in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to guarantee effective tracking and follow-up on reported cases.
