The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD) has partnered with the National Population Commission (NPC) to address Nigeria’s housing deficit.
The partnership will involve the design and implementation of survey instruments to collect accurate and credible data on the housing needs of Nigeria’s population. This data will be used to develop effective strategies to tackle the housing shortage and ensure that every Nigerian has access to safe and affordable housing.
The housing deficit in Nigeria is estimated to be between 17 million and 28 million. This means that there are not enough housing units to meet the needs of the population. The shortage of housing has a number of negative consequences, including overcrowding, homelessness, and poor living conditions.
The partnership between the FMHUD and the NPC is a major step forward in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit. By working together, the two organizations can collect the data needed to develop effective solutions to this critical problem.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Babatunde Fashola, said that the partnership is a “significant milestone” in the government’s efforts to address the housing crisis. He said that the data collected will be used to “develop a comprehensive and sustainable housing plan” for Nigeria.
The NPC Chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra, said that the commission is committed to supporting the government’s efforts to address the housing deficit. He said that the NPC will provide the FMHUD with the necessary data and technical expertise to develop effective solutions to the problem.
