The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to remove illegal structures and wrong parking at the Area 1 Shopping Complex in Abuja. The decision was reached at a meeting between the FCTA and traders in the market.
The Director of FCTA Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, said the current FCT Administration is committed to sanitizing the market and making it a safer and more hygienic place for traders and customers.
Galadima said the congested nature of the market, its unhygienic and untidy conditions, and the proliferation of generating sets are posing a threat to safety and health. He also said the security of lives and property is threatened.
Galadima said the FCTA will remove all illegal structures, create space inside the market for parking, and relocate all kilishi/suya sellers under one roof. He said the FCTA will also provide alternative shops for those who will be affected by the cleanup.
Speaking on behalf of the traders, Umar Uba thanked the FCT Administration for meeting with them and informing them of the plans. He pledged that the traders will assist the authorities in sanitizing the market.
