The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, inaugurated the Light Up Abuja Project: Lots I & II on Thursday, with the intention of revolutionizing street lighting in vital districts of the capital and along prominent expressways.

Lot 1 of the endeavor will span the elegant neighborhoods of Maitama, Central Area, Wuse, Asokoro, and the Airport Expressway, while Lot 2 will concentrate on the vibrant sections of Katampe, Katampe Extension, Jabi, Garki, Gudu, and Mabushi.

This remarkable initiative encompasses the provision and installation of state-of-the-art integrated hybrid solar-powered streetlights, showcasing 300W Zolar-powered fixtures with luminous flux ranging from 7,500lm to a dazzling 17,500lm. It will also involve the modernization of pre-existing systems, the installation of robust galvanized poles at new sites, and the replacement of any vandalized or damaged poles.

Furthermore, each streetlight will be equipped with an advanced surveillance module, interconnected with a centralized control room to effectively monitor and deter vandalism.

As stated by the FCT Administration, the project is anticipated to be finalized within six months, representing a significant leap towards sustainable urban illumination and enhanced security within the capital.
