Ethiopia’s Africa Hall, a historic symbol of Pan-African unity, has been renovated and modernized after a decade-long restoration project. Originally inaugurated by Ethiopia’s Emperor Haile Selassie in 1961, the building housed the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and played a pivotal role in Africa’s fight for independence. Originally designed by Italian architect Arturo Mezzedimi, the renovated structure now boasts modern technology, improved accessibility, and enhanced safety features. Nevertheless, it preserves its original mid-century modernist aesthetic. The project’s crown jewel, Afewerk Tekle’s stained-glass masterpiece, “The Total Liberation of Africa,” has been fully restored, symbolizing the continent’s ongoing journey toward unity and progress. The revamped Africa Hall is now poised to host future generations of African leadership.
