Africa boasts a rich collection of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, recognized for their exceptional cultural, historical, and natural significance. With 98 properties inscribed on the list, these sites include 54 cultural, 39 natural, and 5 mixed properties, contributing to the continent’s economic and social development through tourism. Ethiopia and South Africa top the list in Africa, each hosting 12 heritage sites, followed by Morocco and Tunisia with nine sites each. Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, and Tanzania each hold seven, while Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Libya, and Zimbabwe round out the list with five sites each. These landmarks, designated for their universal value, preserve Africa’s heritage while attracting global travelers. As of 2024, UNESCO’s World Heritage List includes 1,223 sites worldwide, underscoring the ongoing efforts to protect and celebrate these irreplaceable treasures for future generations.
