Ethio telecom has launched its third Super-Fast Smart Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Addis Ababa, further strengthening Ethiopia’s rapidly growing electric mobility ecosystem. The new facility, located around the Summit–Fyel Bet area, marks another milestone in the company’s broader strategy to support the country’s green transition through advanced digital infrastructure.
Designed with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence capabilities, the new station introduces chargers that automatically diagnose and adapt to the specifications of each vehicle. The system includes dedicated compatibility for European EV models, addressing a critical gap in the local market and improving service accessibility for a wider range of drivers.
With the capacity to serve up to 16 vehicles simultaneously, this new addition brings Ethio telecom’s total combined charging capability across its three stations to 48 vehicles at a time.
Strong Operational Performance and Environmental Contribution
Ethio telecom’s previously inaugurated smart charging stations along the Bole–Megenagna corridor have been fully operational since February 2025. To date, they have provided charging services to more than 165,000 electric vehicles, dispensing over 4.3 million kilowatt-hours of energy. This clean-energy contribution has prevented approximately 6,081 tons of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to planting more than 30,000 trees.
AI-Enabled Charging Infrastructure
Each of the 16 super-fast chargers at the new site has a capacity of up to 180 KWH, supported by a suite of intelligent systems designed to ensure rapid, efficient, and reliable service. Key features include:
- AI-Driven Diagnostics: Pre-analysis of battery specifications and customer requests to deliver optimized, self-adjusting charging sessions.
- Battery Health Maintenance: Zero energy loss, high efficiency, and automated battery health protection and restoration.
- Scalable Architecture: Designed for future expansion with minimal additional cost or interruption.
Seamless Digital Experience via telebirr
The station operates 24/7 and is fully integrated with the telebirr SuperApp ecosystem, offering:
- Secure digital payments
- Self-service initiation and completion of charging
- Real-time progress monitoring via cloud-backed systems
- NFC-enabled tap-to-charge authentication
Driving Ethiopia’s Digital and Green Future
As Ethiopia accelerates its shift toward sustainable mobility and a green economy, Ethio telecom continues to play a leading role in delivering modern, reliable, and future-ready EV infrastructure. The commissioning of this third AI-powered station underscores the company’s commitment to advancing national priorities through innovation and digital transformation.
