Huawei announced on Friday that Ethio Telecom has deployed its tri-band massive MIMO solution that it says significantly improves the telco’s 4G network both in terms of performance and user experience.

Deployed on a live site on Ethio Telecom’s network, Huawei’s GigaAAU FDD tri-band Massive MIMO solution has boosted 4G traffic has grown by 70%, while the average network speed perceived by users has gone up 68%, which Huawei said has enabled a better user experience for video streaming, immersive online gaming, and fast file downloads.

Huawei said its GigaAAU solution supports 720W transmit power and integrates three bands (1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.6 GHz) into a single AAU, enabling a single deployment to support all three bands without increasing the number of antennas.

The solution also utilizes intelligent beam scheduling and intelligent beamforming to handle complex traffic and interference via dynamic beam movement and intelligent interference avoidance, which Huawei said can boost network speeds by 20% to 30% per user. The GigaAAU solution also has an energy saving feature that minimises off-peak power consumption near zero, the vendor added.
