Ethio telecom’s CEO, Frehiwot Tamru, held a high-level strategic meeting with senior leadership from the China Development Bank (CDB), led by General Manager Mr. Shi Wenju, and its subsidiary, the China-Africa Development Fund (CADF), to deepen and expand their long-standing strategic partnership.
The discussions were highly productive, focusing on the ongoing collaboration and Ethio telecom’s continued efforts to realize the ambitious Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision. During the meeting, Tamru presented a comprehensive overview of the transformational reforms implemented over the past six years, along with major telecom and digital infrastructure expansions aimed at building an inclusive, digitally empowered society.

She highlighted how Ethio telecom has strategically leveraged infrastructure development financed through partnerships, including support from CDB, to accelerate nationwide digital transformation. These collaborative investments have not only expanded connectivity to millions of Ethiopians but also enabled the rollout of transformative beyond-connectivity solutions, such as the telebirr digital financial ecosystem and innovative e-commerce platforms, driving inclusion and powering Ethiopia’s digital economy.
The CDB delegation commended Ethio telecom’s leadership for its impactful execution of reform initiatives and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing support of Ethiopia’s landmark digital development journey.

Looking ahead, Frehiwot presented Ethio telecom’s new growth strategy, ‘NEXT HORIZON: Digital & Beyond 2028,’ which aligns closely with the national Digital Ethiopia 2030 agenda. She underlined the company’s commitment to working hand in hand with strategic partners and development financiers—including CDB and CADF—to sustain robust growth, unlock new opportunities, and expand digital inclusion.
