The training provided the tax auditors with a deeper understanding of the sector which will enable them to effectively audit the telecommunication sector.

PRETORIA – The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) facilitated the delivery of technical assistance (TA) training in auditing the telecommunications sector to the

Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS)

.

This was done as part of a series of training under the ongoing TA on improving

VAT compliance in Eswatini.

The objective of the TA was to capacitate the ERS audit team with the knowledge to evaluate its domestic telecommunications sector from a tax audit perspective. The aim also included developing and delivering learning products for tax auditors to increase their understanding of the steps involved in conducting a tax audit, of the telecoms sector and its related sub-sectors.

The training provided the tax auditors with a deeper understanding of the sector which will enable them to effectively audit the telecommunication sector.

The training was delivered through a mix of approaches, namely:

  • Lectures: These were tailored to learning outcomes created to achieve set objectives. The learning outcomes were reviewed at the beginning and end of each lecture. Participants were selected at random to explain any of the learning outcomes.

  • Case studies: Learning was reinforced by benching against applicable case studies.

  • Presentation: PowerPoint presentations were developed and used to guide the delivery of the training.

It was delivered virtually from 30 May – 3 June 2022.
