Equinix, the world’s leading digital infrastructure company™, has announced its plans to open a new high-performance data center in Lagos, Nigeria.

The $22 million investment in the LG3 facility marks the initial phase of an ambitious $100 million investment plan aimed at revolutionizing Africa’s digital infrastructure over the next two years. Set to open in the first quarter of 2026, this new facility will provide crucial infrastructure for Nigeria, enabling local businesses to scale while attracting international companies to this strategically located hub for global connectivity.

The LG3 Data Center in Nigeria will also integrate Equinix Fabric, allowing businesses to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructures to cloud service providers, partners, and other companies, as well as to other Equinix locations globally.

“LG3 represents a key milestone in Equinix’s long-term dedication to bridging Africa’s digital divide,” said Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix. “As Lagos becomes a focal point for talent, innovation, and global connectivity, this new facility will accelerate access to cutting-edge technologies like cloud, AI, and the next generation of startups. We are not merely constructing data centers; we are fostering growth, empowering innovation, and establishing the foundation for an interconnected African economy that is poised to lead globally.”

Olawale Owoeye, Managing Director at Cedarview, added, “Equinix’s Lagos data center will provide us with the reliable and resilient platform our customers require to expand our digital footprint. The unmatched reliability and access to a global ecosystem enable us to deliver high-performance solutions to our customers, and the new LG3 data center in Lagos is a crucial step in ensuring we remain at the forefront of business connectivity in Africa.”

As the second-largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria is home to a rapidly growing and tech-savvy population. Lagos, in particular, stands at the heart of Africa’s digital transformation and is the only African city listed in the Global Top 100 Startup Ecosystems.

On Equinix’s prospects in Africa, Aslıhan Güreşcier, Vice President for EMEA Growth & Emerging Markets at Equinix, remarked, “Africa’s digital transformation is picking up speed, fueled by a young population, greater internet penetration, and an increasing demand for secure data infrastructure. With the opening of our new data center in Lagos, Equinix is excited to invest in this dynamic region, supporting our customers’ growth with world-class data centers that power everything from banking and education to emergency services and commerce.”

Since its entry into the African market in 2022, Equinix has extended its presence across key markets in Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. Last year, the company also opened its first data center in Johannesburg, South Africa, significantly enhancing Equinix’s global footprint on the continent and accelerating Africa’s digital transformation by delivering sustainable, carrier-neutral infrastructure that connects Africa to the global economy.

Equinix’s global network spans more than 270 data centers worldwide, bringing the company’s extensive expertise and infrastructure to the region. This includes leveraging Nigeria’s strategic role as a key international hub for subsea cable connections, linking Africa to Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Equinix remains committed to responsible investment and operations that prioritize sustainability. Across all of its locations, including LG3, the company focuses on minimizing its environmental impact and enhancing operational efficiency.
