Embraer quietly introduced a military variant of its E190-E2 commercial jet at the recently concluded Korea Army International Defense Exhibition 2024.

The Brazilian aerospace firm showcased a concept image of the aircraft, indicating modifications for specialized military missions.

While no technical details were provided, reports suggest that the militarized E190-E2 could be utilized for maritime patrol, airborne early warning, and surveillance missions.

With its new role, the aircraft is expected to fill the gap between standard military aircraft and those based on larger 737 or A330 platforms.

E190-E2 Features

The E190-E2 is the intermediate model in Embraer’s family of E2 narrow-body commercial jets. It made its first flight in 2016 and received type certification in 2018.

With a length of 36 meters (118 feet), it can transport approximately 114 passengers.

The fixed-wing aircraft also features fuel-efficient turbofan engines from Pratt & Whitney, increasing its range and flight performance.

According to Embraer, the E190-E2 was developed using insights from other E2 aircraft, ensuring it is modern and reliable while retaining the maturity of its predecessors.

Expertise in Aircraft Conversion

This is not the first time Embraer has converted its commercial jets for special missions.

The company previously transformed its ERJ 145 regional aircraft into a special mission platform.

It also produced airborne early warning and maritime patrol aircraft for various countries based on its existing aircraft.
