In retaliation to Apple’s latest announcement of integrating OpenAI into its software, Elon Musk says he’ll ban all Apple products at his company. On Monday, Apple announced an OpenAI partnership that will integrate its popular ChatGPT system into iPhones. The partnership means that Apple’s digital assistant, Siri, will be given the generative AI capabilities of the OpenAI system.

JUST IN: Elon Musk says he will ban all Apple devices at his companies “if Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level.”

“Stop this creepy spyware or all Apple devices will be banned from the premises of my companies.”

In a series of posts to X, Musk shared his lack of trust in both Apple and OpenAI. In response to one user about Musk launching a phone with X’s Grok AI integrated to compete with the iPhone, Elon Musk said, “If Apple actually integrates woke nanny AI spyware into their OS, we might need to do that!” He also called Apple’s integration of OpenAI instead of their own AI system “embarrassing.” “ It’s patently absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to make their own AI, yet is somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security & privacy!

“Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They’re selling you down the river,” he went on in the series of threads. “If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies,” Musk further posted. “That is an unacceptable security violation.”

If the ban takes effect at Elon Musk’s companies, he says he will ensure that “visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage.” Talking directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook about the announcement, Musk said he doesn’t want the ChatGPT integration.

Don’t want it.

Either stop this creepy spyware or all Apple devices will be banned from the premises of my companies.

Apple’s ChatGPT feature will be available at no cost to iPhone users as part of an iOS 18 update available later this year. The development will allow Apple to increase its competition in the generative AI space.

Elon Musk and OpenAI have been rivals for years. Most recently, Musk filed a lawsuit against artificial intelligence company OpenAI and Sam Altman over an alleged breach of contract. Musk claims he is the reason OpenAI exists and has largely criticized the platform recently. Now that Apple is using OpenAI’s ChatGPT to expand its footprint in the AI sector, Musk’s destiny for both companies appears to be growing.
