EABL Reports Major Gains in Water and Energy Sustainability
East African Breweries PLC (EABL) now powers more than 70% of its manufacturing with renewable energy. This milestone strengthens its bold energy transition plan and cements its leadership in climate action.
The shift comes from sustained investment in biomass plants, energy recovery systems, and electrification of operations. Together, these have reduced reliance on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions significantly.

Advancing Renewable Energy and Operational Resilience
In the last year, EABL maximized the use of biomass plants in Nairobi, Kampala, and Kisumu. The brewer also improved energy efficiency across markets and piloted Zero Liquid Discharge systems that recycle and reuse water.
On top of that, it introduced electric forklifts to replace diesel-powered ones.
These steps have lowered EABL’s environmental footprint while boosting resilience against rising global energy costs and stricter climate rules.

EABL also reported progress in water stewardship, replenishing more than 700 million litres in 2025. This exceeded the year’s 400 million-litre target and built on 2024’s contribution, bringing the company’s cumulative total to over two billion litres.
Through regenerative agriculture, EABL has also doubled farmer yields in some regions, supporting communities and promoting food security.

It highlights a continued commitment to regenerative farming, circular packaging, and community investment while remaining transparent and accountable to stakeholders.
