EABL Launches New Caregiver Leave Policy to Support Employee Well-Being
East African Breweries PLC (EABL) https://www.eabl.com/ has introduced a Caregiver Leave Policy that allows eligible employees to take up to 10 working days of paid leave within a rolling 12-month period. This move is part of the company’s commitment to supporting staff in balancing professional responsibilities with personal care duties.
The policy supports employees who need to care for or arrange care for dependents with short- or long-term health needs. As a result, it offers peace of mind to caregivers while promoting employee retention and well-being. By providing dedicated time off, EABL aims to ensure that staff do not have to choose between their jobs and family responsibilities.
This step reflects EABL’s goal to create a workplace that values empathy, flexibility, and overall wellness. Furthermore, it aligns with its ongoing efforts to develop people-first policies that reflect real-life challenges.
Recognising the Role of Caregivers in the Workplace
The new policy recognises the vital role that caregivers play, both at home and in the workplace. It provides employees with the time and space they need to fulfil these duties without compromising their career growth or financial stability.

Importantly, the policy launch comes during Mental Health Awareness Month, marked every May. This year’s theme, “Turning Awareness into Action,” aligns well with EABL’s initiative. By acknowledging the emotional and logistical demands that caregiving brings, the company is translating awareness into meaningful action.
“We believe that well-being goes beyond the workplace. As part of our ongoing commitment to mental health, equity, and inclusion, this new policy is one more way we’re ensuring that our people feel supported in all aspects of life,” said Jacqueline Wanyama, Group Human Resources Director at EABL.
Continued Commitment to Employee Wellness
EABL continues to evolve its internal policies to meet the changing needs of its workforce. In recent years, the company has introduced a Family Leave Policy, Pregnancy Loss Guidelines, and Menopause Guidelines. These additions demonstrate its leadership in employee care and inclusive HR practices.
By putting employees’ well-being at the centre, EABL is not only enhancing its workplace culture but also setting a strong example for other companies in the region.
