DTB customers to access unsecured loans for solar power installation

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has launched a new Solar Finance Product for salaried homeowners in peri-urban Nairobi. The move advances DTB’s commitment to sustainability by financing climate-smart solutions.

The product, developed in partnership with solar technology provider Sun King, allows qualified DTB customers to access unsecured loans for installing solar power systems in their homes.

The initiative targets homeowners in areas such as Kitengela, Rongai, Ngong, Juja, and Ruiru, where power supply is often unreliable.

During the MoU signing with Sun King, DTB Kenya CEO Murali Natarajan said: “Access to affordable and reliable energy is not just an environmental issue, it’s an economic and social imperative. Through this Solar Finance Product, we help homeowners cut electricity costs while supporting Kenya’s transition to cleaner, more resilient energy sources.”

Kenyan households face two key energy challenges. First, high electricity costs reduce disposable income and raise the cost of living for families and businesses. Second, frequent outages disrupt productivity and daily routines.

In the year ending June 2023, consumers endured 44.9 unplanned outages, losing an average of 115.73 hours of power.

DTB’s Solar Finance Product offers a cost-effective and dependable alternative. Solar systems reduce reliance on the national grid and shield homeowners from tariff fluctuations and outages.

By lowering barriers to solar adoption, DTB empowers homeowners to take control of their energy use. In doing so, they invest in solutions that benefit both their households and the planet.
