The London Internet Exchange (LINX) announced on Wednesday it is expanding its partnership with Digital Realty into west Africa via a deal to establish its planned internet exchange point (IXP) for Ghana in Digital Realty’s upcoming data centre in Accra.

The LINX Accra IXP – first announced late last year – is expected to go live in the coming weeks once Digital Realty completes its new ACR2 facility, which is in the final stages of construction.

The ACR2 data centre is located close to several submarine landing cable stations in downtown Accra. Digital Realty also hosts LINX IXPs in London and Northern Virginia in the US.

The new IXP will be the third location in Africa for LINX since the launch of LINX Nairobi in 2023 and LINX Mombasa in February 2025, both working closely with Kenyan data center firm iColo, which Digital Realty purchased in 2019 via its unit Interxion.

Joseph Koranteng, MD for Digital Realty in Ghana, said that LINX Accra was “a key milestone” for the data centre operator as it continues to strengthen interconnection across Africa.

“As demand for low-latency connectivity grows, this collaboration will play a critical role in helping to shape the region’s digital future by enabling greater access, resilience, and integration with the global internet fabric,” Koranteng said in a joint statement.
