Denmark has officially joined the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program, which includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany.

Signing the technical arrangement marks the second step in becoming a full member of the program, which enables the serial procurement of CAVS vehicles based on the Patria 6×6 platform.

Full membership requires additional steps, including signing research and development and framework agreements.

“Patria welcomes Denmark’s swift decision to join the CAVS programme. The constantly evolving European security landscape has resulted into a high need of multinational collaboration enhancing interoperability and security of supply between allied nations,” SVP of  Market Area Nordics at Patria Mats Warstedt said.

“Supported by the EU’s European Defence Industry Reinforcement through common Procurement Act, the CAVS programme is a prime example for creating the desired common capabilities in a quick and cost-effective manner.”

Germany Joined as Full Member

Germany became the latest country to join the program as a full member in January.

Following its membership, Berlin signed a research and development agreement for the CAVS NEMO mortar and CAVS mortar command & control variants worth 50 million euros ($51 million).

Germany has also invited Patria to submit a binding offer for a fleet of approximately 300 new-generation armored transport vehicles, intended to replace the country’s aging Fuchs personnel carriers, first inducted in 1979.

The procurement will be carried out through the CAVS program.
