Bayelsa State was plunged into darkness after two towers of the Nigerian Transmission Company, TCN, on the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 kilovolt line were demolished by vandals from Igbooghene community.
TCN made this known on Thursday in a statement by its Director General, Social Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
The company said the incident occurred on July 29, 2024, in Igbooghene community of Bayelsa State.
As a result, there was power outage across Bayelsa State, including TCN’s Yenagoa and Gbarain stations.
“Currently, there is still no electricity in Yenagoa Metropolis and Bayelsa State.
“Our engineers, the General Manager, Port Harcourt Zone, Eng. Emmanuel Akpa, accompanied by DSS operatives, inspected the location of the damaged towers.
“Plans are underway to mobilise the contractor for the urgent reconstruction of the collapsed towers,” he said.
The development comes after an incident where a person was caught damaging tower T238 on the Owerri/Ahoada 132 kV line on June 16, 2024.
Recall that another act of vandalism occurred at the Ahoada substation on June 10, 2024.
